A recent Fiat study showed that British drivers are the most fuel-efficient in Europe, mainly due to our smooth gear changing and moderate acceleration and braking. This contrasts with other nationalities, such as the Italians and Germans who apparently accelerate harder (who’d have thought it?).

I’m not sure if this just reinforces stereotypes or gives us some real insight into more environmentally friendly motoring (if there is such as thing). The article (I haven’t see the full report) doesn’t mention if the UK’s continuing love of larger cars and 4x4s outweighs the better driving techniques…
